2007 Dance Workshops


We have so many dance workshops going it may be hard to tell what's what. This "cheat sheet" is intended to make it easier for you to decide where your feet should lead you.

**Please note the Tahitian workshop in the Workshop 4 tent at 1:00 pm. The Folk Festival dancing excitement begins at 10 AM with the Dragon and Lion Dancers of Martial Artistry in the Dance Tent and with Farfesha Belly Dance and Zito Ellas Greek Dancers on the Demo Stage. Don't miss the Irish Step and Tahitian performances on the Demo Stage at 2 PM.

Enchantment Scottish Country – Learn and enjoy the dances of Scotland. Kilts not required

International Folk - Taste the variety of music and dance from around the world.

Square Dance- Learn a folk dance style that originated in the United States. Do-si-do and away you go.

Scandinavian – Learn dances from Sweden and Norway.

Greek Dances- Learn the Syrto, Hasapiko, or one of the many other wonderful circle dances still found in the taverns in Greece.  For beginners to experts.

Country Western 2-Step: - Learn easy basic steps that you can use on the dance floor tonight. Individual attention given.

African Dance, followed by African Drum workshop at 6 PM.  A Rhythm based, Energetic dance style.

Variety Barn Dance "under the stars" in the Dance Tent, 8-11PM, with music by the Rifters, sponsored in part by Albuquerque Swing & Country Dance Club Variety Dance

and

NM FolkMADS Contra Dance in the Dance Building.  Music by the Albuquerque Megaband!  Beginners instruction at 7:30 PM, Dance from 8-11 PM

and

African Dance in the Fine Arts Building, 7:30-10 PM
